Carpentry and Drywall

This training will help prepare the student for reading measurements, using a saw, using a drill, hammering, understanding calculations necessary for the job, and how not to be afraid of heights. The student upon completion of this program will have the skills necessary to be employed in entry level positions in the construction trades field as carpenters, finish carpenters, general laborers, drywallers, painters, and others.

The course is twelve (12) weeks in duration. Final Grades and the Graduation Ceremony is in Week 13. Course total is 366 hours.

Prerequisite (s)

High School Diploma or GED. Must have basic math and reading skills at or above the 6th grade level.

Week 1 Assessments, Goal Setting, Resume Development, Interviewing Skills, Conflict Resolution, Team Building, and Job Search Skills
Week 2 Reading, writing, and math skills in relation to Carpentry and Drywall
Week 3 Introduction to Carpentry and Drywalling, Power Tools, Safety Conditions
Week 4 Building Designs and Reading Blue Prints
Week 5 Reading, writing and Math Exercises in relation to Carpentry and Drywall
Week 6 Leveling, Instruments, Operations, and Foundation Construction
Week 7 Framing, Energy Conservation, Installation and Construction, Methods, Stair Construction, Interior and Exterior Finish
week 8 Work Ethics, Pre-employment work maturity exercises, Post Assessment
Weeks 9 – 12 Internship: on construction site to learn hands on techniques
Week 13 Final Grades and Graduation Ceremony
